Following a debilitating accident, Elide Andrade thrives at CMC
Elide Andrade was in her second year at Colorado Mountain College studying to be a health care provider when her world turned upside down. She was in a debilitating car accident.
“I didn’t think I would ever go back to college,” said the Carbondale resident, who took the majority of her classes at CMC Vail Valley in Edwards, and the rest through online learning.
With help from her college counselor and CMC’s Disability Services, Andrade was able to return to school and finish her coursework.
“They assisted me with my classes and made the process of going back to college much smoother,” she said.
Reaching goals
Andrade graduated in May with a certificate of occupational proficiency in medical assistant and an Associate of Applied Science degree in medical assistant.
“I am very grateful for everything that CMC has done for me,” she said. “I wouldn’t be where I am without all the amazing people who cared for me and helped me reach my goals.”
She said she appreciated the college’s welcoming atmosphere and the one-on-one attention she received from faculty members.
“The instructors are very helpful and want their students to succeed,” Andrade said. “CMC is diverse and I enjoyed the small class sizes because it was easy to communicate and ask for help.”
With her medical assistant education, she can now care for others in the same way others have cared for her.
“Colorado Mountain College has had a great effect on my life,” she said.
