Johnston has spent more than 20 years climbing and photographing all 54 of Colorado’s 14ers from high-altitude vantage points.

Johnston matured as a photographer in the age of film, and still uses traditional photographic processes on certain portfolios. In this particular project, he photographed Colorado’s highest peaks primarily with a 4×5 view camera and black-and-white film.

Johnston is the director of professional photography at the Isaacson School for Communication, Arts and Media at Colorado Mountain College and is a member of the Society for Photographic Education and the American Society for Media Photographers.
