The weekly Common Grounds for Veterans meeting at Colorado Mountain College Rifle will host a guest speaker, retired U.S. Army Col. Kathleen Dennis, on Feb. 2.
As the Colorado state ambassador for the Women in Military Service to America Memorial Foundation, Dennis will focus on WIMSA’s current efforts to honor and register every woman veteran. In doing so, over 2.5 million American women veterans, past and present, will become part of the country’s history at the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. Dennis will also speak about her military service.
Colorado Mountain College is a Student Veterans of America-approved college, and supports Dennis and WIMSA’s efforts to honor military women, to educate the public with veterans’ stories and experiences, and to remember those who have paved the way.
Dennis retired in 2004 after 26-plus years on active duty as a military logistician. She holds two master’s degrees in engineering mechanics from Virginia Tech and national security studies from the National War College/National Defense University. She was a commander with materiel command in southwest Asia and an assistant professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Her civilian jobs include fleet manager for Denver Public Schools as well as assistant regional director for budget and administration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Common Grounds meets from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in room 162/64, CMC Rifle, 3695 Airport Road; the meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
