Chloe Krebill has accomplished more in her 19 years than many people have in their lifetimes.
After leaving high school, she came to Colorado Mountain College Rifle and studied to earn her high school equivalency diploma.
A recipient of the Clough Scholarship, she became a peer mentor to her fellow students. A young mother, she graduated from the Rifle campus with a 3.9 grade point average and became a member of the national honor society Phi Theta Kappa. She graduated this May with an associate degree in business, and gave the student address for CMC Rifle for the college’s first virtual commencement.
“She’s a young professional in the making,” said Gethze Hammond, CMC Rifle TRIO coordinator and college navigator coordinator.
Due to efforts to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, like most colleges in the country Colorado Mountain College decided to hold a virtual commencement this year. Launched at noon on May 15, 2020, CMC’s 2020 commencement website will be on view throughout at least the summer.
The site contains videos for seven different commencement ceremonies and information about the nearly 1,200 students invited to participate. Each ceremony features recorded speeches from the college president and Dr. Angie Paccione, the executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Each campus’s ceremony also includes a keynote speech from one of seven trailblazing Colorado women (in honor of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage), well as speeches from a student speaker and campus representatives.
Turning point
Krebill said her first class at the Rifle campus set her trajectory into motion.
“It was my public speaking class with Dave Chimovitz,” she said. “I learned so much in that class beyond public speaking. That class opened my eyes to the amazing possibilities that CMC has to offer.”
For Krebill, Colorado Mountain College served as a turning point in her life.
“My time at CMC greatly affected my life because it made me into the person I am today,” she said. “I met many amazing new friends because of CMC and realized how much I want to work at a college in my future career. CMC gave me a family I can always rely on.”
And what does she want others to know about Colorado Mountain College?
“Attending CMC is a fantastic experience,” Krebill said. “The staff and faculty show how much they care and the environment is warm and friendly. You feel listened to, valued and cared for at the Rifle campus.”
“Chloe is one of the most mature and dedicated students I have ever encountered,” said Hammond. “She is, in a word, unstoppable!”
