On the heels of earning their second-in-a-row state culinary championship, Colorado Mountain College Culinary Institute’s student team medaled recently at the American Culinary Federation Western Regional Conference in Newport Beach, California.

There, at the student team regional competition, they won a silver medal and third place. The team from Orange Coast College took first and Utah Valley University’s team came in second. Both earned gold medals.

CMC’s team members are Culinary Institute apprentice chefs, studying at the college and apprenticing at a half-dozen Keystone Resort restaurants. The team competed against culinary students from four western states.

Four ACF-certified judges evaluated each team’s basic skills, technique and focus in the kitchen. Then, within a set time, judges observed the teams as they cooked and served a four-course meal for four.

Attending the ACF conference provides the team opportunities to network with other students and receive feedback from a wide range of highly accomplished chefs.

Previously, Colorado Mountain College Culinary Institute’s student team earned a silver medal and first-place honors at an ACF competition in December, becoming Colorado’s state culinary student champions for the second year in a row.
