Liberty Mutual Insurance is running a campaign highlighting Olympic athletes past and present. Each athlete’s story illustrates the campaign’s theme that every setback in life also affords an opportunity for a come back.
Two former CMC students, Katie Uhlaender and Chris Klug, are among the athletes featured in the campaign. To see Klug’s feature, click here. Many are already familiar with Klug’s inspiring story. A three-time Olympic snowboarder who also has eleven US National Snowboarding titles to his name, Klug, an Aspen resident, won a bronze medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics less than two years after receiving a liver transplant. He went on to create the Chris Klug Foundation to promote organ & tissue donation and improve the lives of those touched by donation.
Uhlaender’s feature focuses on her comeback after a disappointing performance at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics in her sport of skeleton. Uhlaender, a part-time Breckenridge resident, lost her father to cancer shortly before the 2010 Games and lost her focus in her grief. The RISE campaign features her return to her mental game for Sochi, and her intention to race to honor the memory of her father. Uhlaender is in fourth place heading into the final two rounds of the Olympic women’s skeleton competition in Sochi, currently a mere .11 seconds out of the medal contention. The final two rounds take place on Friday, February 14.
