Song: Like a Buddha, Railroad Earth Live at the Ogden 12/31/2011
CMC student Bailey Peth reflected on the unique community of Steamboat in a recent post in her blog. Bluebird Sky.
There is something special here in Steamboat. I spent the few days I was home this summer trying to put my finger on it. My consensus is this; in Steamboat the aspens whisper a melody to which the river composes her harmony. Hearing this marvelous song, the wind comes into to dance. The grass and animals all seem to dance along. This frivolous behavior on part of nature in turn affects the humans, who cannot help but smile like a bunch of happy Buddha.
Maybe it is all the sulfur in the air, but people here are just nicer than anywhere else in the world.
As I walk onto campus every day I pass a bunch of strangers, and each one of them flashes a smile or a wave, or a “Hey, how’s it going?” Everyone opens doors for each other. This is probably one of the few places left where people pick up hitch hikers anymore. There is a sense of family in the air that is almost tangible. The hustle and the bustle of the modern world is conspicuously absent from our little slice of heaven.
All of this makes for the best possible environment to live in.
