Telemark Skier Magazine to screen new film this weekend

Steamboat Springs — Ski and snowboard addicts can get a fix of the winter this weekend with screenings of two new snow sports films.
“Re:Session,” the 2009 ski and snowboard movie from Teton Gravity Research, plays at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort ballroom. “The Freeheel Life,” a montage movie by Telemark Skier Magazine Editor Josh Madsen, plays at 7 p.m. Sunday in Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill Lodge.
This is the fourth year a Teton Gravity Research screening has been included in the lineup for the Steamboat Mountain Film Festival, festival organizer Michael Martin said. The “Re:Session” screening is the first event of the seventh annual festival, which continues Oct. 23 and 24.
“They’re a great kickoff to the festival and a great kickoff to the season, because it’s skiing and snowboarding so it attracts a lot of skiers and snowboarders. It’s typically the local favorite as far as the big production houses,” Martin said about the TGR films.
Chris Dickey, spokesperson for “Re:Session,” said the film stands out from most other ski movies he’s seen. The movie “takes viewers beyond the traditional ski and snowboard movie into a revolutionary realm of action sports entertainment,” with footage from Italy, Poland, Alaska, Utah and Colorado, according to a news release from Teton Gravity Research.

Steamboat Mountain Film Festival also features screenings of adventure films that have been submitted in two main categories: one general and one focused on action sports.
Submitted film screenings are Oct. 23 at Colorado Mountain College’s Alpine Campus, and movies by companies including Matchstick Productions and Standard Films play Oct. 24 at Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel.
Four of those entries are included in the Reel Awards category; those entries had to meet certain time and subject matter requirements. Teasers from the four Reel Awards films will be posted at www.steamboatmountainfilmfestival.com, where Web site users can vote on their favorite film, after the TGR premiere, Martin said.
