Colorado Mountain College’s Aspen Gallery will feature photographs taken by children living in the slums of Kenya in a “Portraits of Kenya” exhibit opening on March 1.

Andrew Braun, a CMC professional photography program student, spent the fall in Africa teaching photography to a class of 24 students in Nakuru, Kenya, as part of a project with the Roaring Fork Valley nonprofit The Child’s Eye and with support from George Stranahan.

“Untitled,” an image by Andrew Braun, is part of an exhibit at the CMC Aspen Gallery in Aspen, featuring the work of the Kenyan students he taught and his own portraits. Braun took this image of a student at the Children from Melon Chosen Community School, a nonprofit in the slums of Nakuru, Kenya.

An opening reception is set for Friday, March 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. Braun will present a short video of his experience in Kenya. The reception is free and open to the public.

The photographs will be on display from March 1 to April 19 at the CMC Aspen Gallery at 255 Sage Way in Aspen.
