Four black-and-white images taken by Matt Lit, a photography instructor at Colorado Mountain College, were chosen for the prestigious 7th Annual International Black and White Spider Awards.
According to www.thespiderawards.com, the Black and White Spider Awards are the leading international awards honoring black and white photography. The
judging panel includes some of the world’s most recognized experts, from London’s Tate Gallery, “National Geographic” magazine, Fratelli Alinari Photography Museum of Florence, Bonhams of London and more.
Lit placed in four categories: in the fine art category, with his image of Great Danes Odin and Macai; in the people category, with his photo of a boy and his father enjoying a festival in Santa Fe, N.M.; in the photojournalism category, with his image of an Israel Defense Force couple strolling in a plaza in Jerusalem; and in the sport category, with a shot of a competitor in the Tough Mudder race series, an extreme obstacle course designed by British Special Forces, reacting to jolts of electricity from an obstacle.
Lit teaches digital photography at CMC in Breckenridge and in online courses of the college’s Isaacson School for New Media. He started teaching at the college in 1995.
Lit’s work has received numerous awards over the years. Recently, he was honored when photojournalist Mary Ellen Mark selected his photograph titled “Biker Child, Eagle Nest, N.M.” for an international portrait contest sponsored by the Center for Fine Art Photography. His work has also been displayed at Denver International Airport and in the Colorado governor’s office.
This fall, Lit is teaching a three-day workshop with acclaimed wildlife photographer Jackie Crivello. He also teaches at the Summer Technology Institute for kids, which is held at CMC in Breckenridge.
