GLENWOOD SPRINGS – Colorado Mountain College is partnering with MindUP, the signature program of The Goldie Hawn Foundation, to present a teacher education conference in Glenwood Springs Sept. 20-21.
Facilitators will bring evidence-based and rigorously researched social-emotional learning tools for teachers to use in our mountain communities’ preschool through eighth-grade schools.
Rooted firmly in neuroscience, MindUP gives children and their teachers the knowledge and skills they need to manage stress, regulate emotions and face the challenges of the 21st century with optimism, resilience and compassion. MindUP’s focus on mindfulness has already been incorporated into the teacher education program at Colorado Mountain College.
Tuition for the CMC & MindUP Teacher Education Conference will be waived for CMC student teachers, local educators and CMC personnel interested in strategies for improving the mental well-being and learning of students in their classrooms.
The conference will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21, at Morgridge Commons, 815 Cooper Ave., 2nd floor, in downtown Glenwood Springs. Priority will be given to teachers within the Colorado Mountain College service area. If space is available, cost for additional conference attendees will be $220 per person. Light breakfasts and lunches are included.
“We are so grateful to have had such a positive response from our partnering school districts,” said Elizabeth Qualman, CMC director of teacher education. The conference is nearing capacity.
