CMC’s Jan Hubbell’s work recognized at 2012 Colorado Film Awards and in Literary Magazine

Aspen adjunct faculty Jan Hubbell’s screenplay “The Perfect Gentleman” was recently honored with the fourth place prize in the 2012 Colorado Film Awards Screenplay Competition.

Hubbell’s work was also recently published in Sugar Mule Literary magazine. her poem, His World, was selected for the publication’s “Women Writing Nature” issue, a special issue of Sugar Mule Literary Magazine that came out in August on-line.

“Poetry is having a huge resurgence in this country,” says Jan Hubbell, English Adjunct at the Aspen Campus.  “Every weekend there are Poetry Slams across the nation that draw thousands of entrants and observers.”

“My poem, His World, was partly inspired by my father’s life-long love of birds, which knew no bounds,” says Hubbell.  “But it is also a double-entendre representing the spiritual aspect of God’s Creation.”

“Nature gives us a chance to connect with the spiritual world in a tangible visual and sensory fashion, and all we have to do to participate is appreciate its majesty,” says Hubbell.  “It doesn’t get any better than that!”

Hubbell is also a member of The Aspen Poet’s Society”, which has, she says, seen its membership and audience more than double in the past few years.  Her poems appear frequently in The Aspen Daily News.  In addition to English, Hubbell also teaches a fiction writing class in Aspen.
