LEADVILLE – Great Outdoors Colorado, Get Outdoors Leadville! and Colorado Mountain College Leadville are inviting the public to a free community barbecue 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 13. The barbecue will help kick off another summer of active outdoor fun and learning in Leadville.
GOL! and CMC are key partners working together as a GOCO Generation Wild community to reconnect youth and families with the great outdoors. This event will also be a celebration of an anticipated project – a community gear library at Colorado Mountain College where locals will be able to check out outdoor gear and participate in outdoor recreation skills training.
The GOL! Community Gear Library will allow Lake County youth and families to access and enjoy the natural world. The gear library will offer locals the opportunity to borrow gear ranging from bikes and boots to tents and snowshoes, along with basic know-how for its use. While the 2,100-square-foot annex is being constructed at CMC over the coming months, GOL! is excited to offer the community outdoor gear from a temporary location.
The gear library project is funded primarily by a GOCO Inspire Initiative grant awarded to Lake County and supplemented by generous support from additional funders.
Come learn more about the Lake County Generation Wild collaboration and the work of GOL! and the many local organizations that help make it possible to get a generation of kids outside and falling in love with nature.
CMC Leadville is at 901 Highway 91. The evening will start at 6 p.m. with a short program at 6:30 p.m. and the barbecue from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Contact Jackie at jradilla@co.lake.co.us, 719-293-5533 for more information.
