Colorado Mountain College’s “Four Year Stories Project” shares the stories of our inaugural class of bachelor’s degree students, who received degrees in May. Next up in our series: Georgie Weber from Steamboat Springs. Read on!
When Colorado Mountain College began offering bachelor’s degrees two years ago, Steamboat Springs resident Georgie Weber was ecstatic. “I knew it was meant to be,” says Weber. “I could finally finish my degree in the place that I am blessed to call home. “
Weber originally came to Steamboat Springs to pursue a two-year degree in Outdoor Education at CMC. She fell in love with the local community and decided to stay after graduation. She tried to pursue a four-year degree with online classes through different colleges while staying in Steamboat Springs, but found the online experience challenging. When the opportunity opened up to earn her bachelor’s degree right at home, she jumped.
The experience has been nothing short of life-changing for the Steamboat Springs resident. Weber began volunteering at the local Yampah Valley Sustainability Council (YVSC) when she first enrolled in the Sustainability Studies program, and purveyed that experience into a job. “My experience in the Sustainability Studies program has been empowering and eye-opening. I was able to get a degree in a field that I have always been passionate about, and I’ve already obtained a job in a field I love. I love the work I am doing using the tools the program has given me,” says Weber. “In my job with YVSC, I get to educate, connect, and bring awareness to my community.”
“I love Colorado Mountain College because of the area it’s located, because of the community- which is full of amazing, passionate people, and the faculty, who are so passionate about what they teach and with whom I’ve developed great relationships. I’ll continue to use them as mentors on my journey. “
