Through Nov. 16, Colorado Mountain College Aspen will host the “National Juried Exhibition of Veteran Art 2017,” produced by the Basalt-based nonprofit organization Challenge America.
The exhibit will feature an art opening from 5 to 7 p.m. and a gallery talk at 6 p.m. on Oct. 12 with Dallas Blaney. Blaney is the director of operations of Challenge America. Founded in 2009, Challenge America develops innovative, evidence-based and replicable initiatives that connect service members, veterans and their families to the resources they need to live productive, dignified lives.
The exhibit had a successful run at Gallery 8K in downtown Aspen this summer, and now returns with approximately 40 paintings, music, essays, drawings, textiles, digital art, photography and sculpture from military-veteran artists, including a new, large installation of work from Don Stuber, a Vietnam veteran and Roaring Fork Valley-based artist.
The main portion of the exhibit will be housed in the CMC Aspen gallery, though works will also be positioned throughout the building for viewing.
