Mathematics educators Stephen Craig and Lee Cox have been named 2015 full-time and adjunct, respectively, Faculty of the Year for Colorado Mountain College’s campus in Steamboat Springs.

One of Craig’s students, Zack Greenberg, said in nominating his instructor, “He made me want to do my very best work for him as well as myself.” Another former student, Tia Valles, said, “He helps students because he is genuine in wanting to become invested in students’ academic success. Doesn’t matter what kind of academic background the student has.”

Lee Cox
Lee Cox, who teaches mathematics at Colorado Mountain College, was named 2015 adjunct Faculty of the Year for the Steamboat Springs campus.

Aaron Wesche, a former student of Cox who nominated her for the award, said that the firm foundation in math that Cox provided “catapulted me forward compared to my peers in my higher math classes.” And another former student, Eric Decker, said, “She is an amazing teacher. Not just on campus but also as a ski instructor. She takes her time and explains everything in great depth.”

Each year, students, staff and faculty of Colorado Mountain College nominate one outstanding full-time and one adjunct faculty member from each of the college’s seven campuses and the online learning department. From those honorees, senior administrators then select a collegewide award recipient in each of the two categories, representing the span of the college’s 12,000-square-mile service area.
