CMC student driving force behind Summit County’s Earth Hour

Global lights-out initiative set locally for 8:30-9:30 p.m.

Patrick Paden, a sophomore at Colorado Mountain College, is the driving force behind Earth Hour in Summit County.

The world’s largest voluntary action for the environment happens Saturday, when the lights go out around the world for one hour.

In Summit County, it’s set for 8:30-9:30 p.m. The initiative began in Sydney, Australia, when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make a climate change statement. A year later, it had caught on with more than 50 million people across 35 countries and territories.
