ASPEN – Colorado Mountain College will host a series of meetings this summer to share information and solicit additional input on expanded academic programming, enhanced workforce training and student housing in Aspen. The first in this series of meetings will occur at the CMC Aspen campus on June 10.
At its meeting in May, the CMC Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution reflecting the board’s commitment to major facility and programmatic improvements at the college’s Aspen campus. It has been nearly two decades since the board last invested in capital improvements at the Aspen campus. The board’s resolution follows years of discussing and prioritizing capital projects across the college’s multi-campus system. The resolution directs college leadership to advance the process of defining a capital improvement and financing plan for the campus, including additional opportunities for engagement, ideas and feedback from local businesses and community members. The community meetings being planned for this summer are part of that process.
“It has always been Colorado Mountain College’s mission to serve its local communities, as it does in all 11 mountain resort locations where campuses exist,” said CMC President and CEO Dr. Carrie Besnette Hauser. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with our immediate neighbors in the Airport Business Center and the many nonprofit, workforce and industry partners in Aspen to redesign and improve the campus to meet the needs of students and employers in the Roaring Fork Valley and enhance community amenities – just as the campus does today.”
As with any infrastructure project of this nature, the trustees emphasized the need to meaningfully engage with local community members and businesses, collaborative partners, and others throughout the process, emphasizing in its resolution that “the college will continue its practice of informing and consulting with Aspen neighborhoods and other local parties during planning activities” and will “identify and address local concerns whenever feasible.”
Interested individuals may participate in the June 10 community open house, one of a series of events that will occur at the college this summer. It will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., at CMC Aspen, 0255 Sage Way.
