The college-wide Common Reader Committee is proud to announce “The Distance Between Us,” by author Reyna Grande, as the 2016-2017 CMC Common Reader.  This year’s event marks the tenth anniversary of the CMC Common Reader program. Grande will visit CMC campuses for a series of author talks, accompanied by special guest Adrian Molina, in October 2016.

Grande’s novel has attracted acclaim from numerous best-selling authors. Cheryl Strayed, author of  “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail” writes that “Reyna Grande is a fierce, smart, shimmering light of a writer with an important story to tell.”  Sandra Cisneros, best known for her novel “The House on Mango Street,” writes: “I’ve been waiting for this book for decades. The American story of new millennium is the story of the Latino immigrant, yet how often has the story been told by the immigrant herself? What makes Grande’s beautiful memoir all the more extraordinary is that, through this hero’s journey, she speaks for millions of immigrants whose voices have gone unheard.

“The Distance Between Us” will be available at local CMC campuses, libraries, and via the CMC virtual library after June 1, 2016. Stay tuned for more information on dates and locations of author talks this fall!
