Bauhaus-inspired art and design at CMC Aspen

Carol Loewenstern is one of 40 artists who have contributed work to “Return to Simplicity – Bauhaus inspired art + design.” A public reception will be held 5-7 p.m. June 13 at CMC Aspen. Loewenstern, a longtime Aspen and Roaring Fork Valley local, said she created this piece, “My Dream House,” years ago after being inspired by the Bauhaus movement.

ASPEN – Colorado Mountain College Aspen and CMC ArtShare will present “Return to Simplicity – Bauhaus inspired art + design,” with a public reception and gallery talk at the campus on June 13.

The exhibit features artwork by 40 local students and resident artists who have drawn inspiration from the Bauhaus movement, which has had an enormous influence in Aspen since Bauhaus pioneer Herbert Bayer arrived here in 1946.

Artists include Andre Wille, Teresa Booth Brown, David Durrance, David Floria, Carol Loewenstern, Harry Teague, Suzannah Reid, Richard Carter, Sharon Wells and many more. The reception is in conjunction with the Bauhaus 100 Aspen celebration.

“Return to Simplicity” will be held 5-7 p.m., Thursday, June 13, at CMC Aspen, 0255 Sage Way, Aspen Business Center. A gallery talk will begin at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and the community is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The exhibit is at CMC’s Aspen campus through Aug. 15. Gallery hours vary so call ahead to plan your visit.
