Alpine Bank Scholar: Marcela Carrasco

Alpine Bank Scholarships are helping 17 graduates of Western Slope high schools attend Colorado Mountain College next fall.  We’ve been featuring all 17 scholarship recipients in eNews the past three weeks. Today’s Alpine Bank Scholar spotlight features Marcela Carrasco, a graduate of Aspen High School.

Marcela Carrasco, a recent Aspen High School graduate, is quick to outline her goals: attend college, study environmental and business law, help others and become a role model to her community and family.

“The Alpine Bank scholarship will open a lot of doors and help me reach these goals in the next few years,” she said.

The student has had to depend on herself without parental support. In order to pay for rent and food, Carrasco has worked five days a week, many times after school.

She said the hardest part has been not having a mother figure, but she said she has used the experience to become stronger and more independent.

“I’ve learned the value of everything I have,” she said. “Education is something I depend on to further myself.”
