All through the week, we’ll be featuring Colorado Mountain College’s 2013-2014 Alpine Bank Scholars. This year’s scholarship is helping 17 graduates of Western Slope high schools attend Colorado Mountain College next fall. Today’s profile features Briana Fernández, from Eagle Valley High School.
Scholars want to ‘pay forward’ support
Briana Fernández has had her eyes on college ever since she started high school. She knew that paying for college would be challenging, as she and her brother are supported by her single mother.
She took advanced placement classes in high school to save on college tuition and continued to excel at languages, mastering English and Spanish and taking classes in French and Chinese. Fernández hopes to pursue a business degree and use her language skills to become an immigration lawyer.
“My mother went through a struggle during immigration,” she said. “I want to be able to help people.”
