Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley will host a Grand Open House at the campus’s new Outdoor Leadership Center & Field House on the afternoon of Feb. 2.

CMC Spring Valley will unveil its newly opened sports and outdoor leadership center to the local community. At the open house, the public is welcome and encouraged to enjoy free access to the college’s flagship fitness facility from 1 to 4 p.m.

“We want to open our doors to members of the Roaring Fork Valley community, so they can become acquainted with this great space,” said Melanie Alexander, CMC Spring Valley director of recreation and events. “During the open house, fitness spaces will be open for use, and while we will not be offering certifications for the climbing wall, we will be staffed with belayers so that anyone can try the climbing wall. During this event, giveaways and snacks will be provided.”

Sports, fitness for all

Amenities include a 38-foot climbing wall – which, according to Alexander, is the tallest in the valley and among the tallest on the Western Slope – with 12 top rope lanes, three auto belays, a bouldering cave and a MoonBoard.

The facility also features free weights and assisted weight machines plus cardio equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, upright and recumbent bikes, rowing machines and a SkiErg (think vertical rowing machine). A multipurpose room has a full fleet of spin bikes and provides plenty of space for functional fitness.

Additionally, a double-court, multipurpose gymnasium with walls accommodates basketball, volleyball and futsal – with pickleball coming soon.

All spaces are technology enabled and are available to be rented out for a variety of events, from conferences to weddings. Double garage doors on the gym level open to a terrace with expansive views of Mount Sopris; the cardio balcony above has an even better view.

Special membership rates available

From now until Feb. 29 in honor of the new year, the campus Field House is offering a lifetime membership for $2,020 to the first 100 people who sign up. Other promotions being offered are a 20-punch pass for $120 (this pass is regularly priced at $160), and annual memberships for community members can be purchased at a 20% discount. Without the discount, an annual individual pass to the new fitness facility is priced at $395.

The Outdoor Leadership Center & Field House is located at Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs, 3000 County Road 114. The facility is on the southeast corner of campus, past the Jim and Connie Calaway Academic Center and overlooking the southeast soccer fields.
