Colorado Mountain College Leadville will host a Community Open House on Feb. 9, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The entire community is invited to visit campus and participate in a wide variety of fun and informative activities for all ages.
“CMC is humbled by the level of support it receives from the community,” said Rachel Pokrandt, college vice president and Leadville and Chaffee County campus dean. “We decided to take this opportunity both to thank our supporters and to invite those who may never have interacted with our campus to come up and enjoy lunch and activities with us.”
All activities are free — including lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Learn about geographic information systems through an interactive scavenger hunt; take a free workshop on Google Docs and Google Drive at 2 p.m.; attend an information session about CMC’s bachelor’s degree in education; check out pond water through a microscope; learn to tie knots; and take home some tips on sharpening knives.
Kids’ activities include face painting, arts and crafts, a bouncy house, snowcat rides and meeting Swoop the CMC mascot. Kids and adults alike can participate in the e Race — a math, nerdy-themed 1.7-mile fun run that starts at 11:15 a.m.
All ages can enjoy climbing on the indoor wall, tie-dyeing a CMC T-shirt or playing with an interactive stream table to learn about erosion and how rivers shape the landscape.
Have you been wanting to try out a fatbike? Take a short, guided fatbike ride on the groomed college trails. Space is limited.
Do you have a student heading off to college soon? Attend the informative financial aid workshop that will guide you through the process of securing funds to pay for college.
Are you interested in welding? Take a workshop, for ages 16 and up. Welding basics will be demonstrated and you will be able to help make metal art to take home.
Explore the CMC Learning Commons, get your library card and participate in some fun activities that will help you find the perfect book to check out.
Community members are invited to share poetry, both original and unoriginal, at a poetry share. Two sessions will be offered in the Learning Commons at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“We are looking forward to sharing our amazing programs with the Lake County community,” said Pokrandt. “We hope as many people as possible come and interact with our wonderful students, faculty and staff on February 9.”
