CMC’s Sara Smith is October feature in new Alpine Bank calendar
Alpine Bank has recently released its 2012 calendar, and Dr. Sara Smith, professor of Spanish at the Roaring Fork Campus, is the featured educator for the month of October.
Every year, the bank produces a themed calendar. “This year, we are honoring educators,” explains Alpine Bank’s Debbie Lundin. “We like to support education in every way we can.”
In his message that prefaces the calendar, Alpine Bank chairman Robert Young says, “We have selected a number of outstanding teachers from our local communities…While these skilled professionals represent only a few of our many great teachers, we feel it is important to recognize the role they play in helping us create and maintain strong and stable communities.”
As they considered a representative educator for the Glenwood Springs area, Smith’s name came up. She had won her campus’s Faculty of the Year award for 2011. And, Lundin said, “It turned out to be a good fit, especially since a lot of kids going through her classes are Alpine Bank Latino Scholars.”
The October photo pictures Smith with a group of students from her Heritage Spanish class. Smith developed this course as a way for native Spanish speakers to advance skills in their native tongue.
Calendars are now available in the lobby of any Alpine Bank location and they are free of charge. Pick yours up today!
