At the 2017 Alpine Bank Latino/Hispanic Scholarship awards luncheon in Glenwood Springs recently, Alpine Bank executives presented 14 graduating high school seniors from five Colorado counties with scholarships to attend Colorado Mountain College for postsecondary study.
To be considered for these specialized scholastic awards, students must be of Latino/Hispanic descent, classify as an in-district student, have at least a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need, among other criteria.
Each renewable scholarship – which equals $2,200 a year – helps to cover the cost of tuition, fees and books for two years at Colorado Mountain College. Alpine Bank has been awarding scholarships to qualified students since the program began in 1996 and, to date, has financed more than 200 scholarships.
This year’s scholarship recipients and their respective high schools are Viridiana Cruz Angeles (Summit), Jose Javier De La Cruz (Basalt), Kenia Contreras (Glenwood Springs), Javier Duran (Aspen), Diana Loera (Eagle Valley), Fabiola Lopez (Rifle), Daniela Lujano (Steamboat Springs), Daisy Ordonez (Grand Valley), Mauricio Ortega Zuniga (Battle Mountain), Jennifer Rios (Roaring Fork), Guadalupe Alvarez Ruiz (Summit), Julie Tellez (Red Canyon), Jesus Terrazas (Eagle Valley) and Kimberly Valdez (Coal Ridge).
