Faculty hail from Eagle, Garfield, Routt counties
Five Colorado Mountain College assistant professors from the college’s campuses in Steamboat Springs, Glenwood Springs-Spring Valley and Edwards recently received promotions, said Dr. Brad Tyndall, the college’s vice president of academic affairs.
All five faculty were elevated from assistant professors to associate professors. Tyndall explained that the difference between assistant and associate professor is reflected in higher standards for academic or career and technical education; teaching, student support and performance evaluations; and service to each respective discipline, to the college and to the community.
From Colorado Mountain College’s campus in Edwards, newly promoted faculty and their fields of study are Tim Loes, biology; Liz Owen, paramedics; and Evan Weatherbie, developmental education.
From the college’s campus in Steamboat Springs, Becky Sears Edmiston, biology, was promoted. And from Spring Valley, Laura Jensson, psychology, received a promotion.
In recommending the faculty for promotions, Colorado Mountain College’s faculty promotions committee cited Loes’s publications, community activities, committee work and mentorship of new faculty. The committee noted Owen’s service to the college and community while she simultaneously earned her registered nurse licensure, and Weatherbie’s leadership in a new developmental education program, as well as service to his community and to his discipline.
At Colorado Mountain College in Spring Valley, Jensson’s strong teaching evaluations from her students were a key factor in her promotion. And Steamboat’s Edmiston was acknowledged for the honors and awards she has received, her service to her discipline and community, and her role on the college’s Faculty Senate.
“Our students often say that our faculty are an important reason that a Colorado Mountain College education is such an excellent value,” said Tyndall. “These professionals’ consistent dedication to empowering students to learn is what sets us apart from other colleges and universities, and I’m pleased we can honor these five individuals through this year’s promotions.”
