CMC ArtShare will present “Wild Horses of the Sand Wash Basin,” a photography exhibit by longtime local photographer Scot Gerdes, at an opening reception on Feb. 8.
Gerdes learned about the wild horse herds of western Colorado through an opportunity to photograph the Little Bookcliffs herd management area while studying at Colorado Mountain College. Although the intent of the ArtShare exhibit is not to make a political statement, Gerdes says he hopes these powerful images will bring attention to the wild horse herds of Colorado and the complicated land management issues and perspectives connected to them.
Gerdes has been inspired by the land and wildlife of western Colorado for nearly three decades. Years spent on his grandparents’ farm instilled in him a connection to the land that is reflected throughout his artistic endeavors.
An opening reception for “Wild Horses of the Sand Wash Basin” will be held 6-8 p.m. at CMC ArtShare Gallery at Morgridge Commons, 815 Cooper Ave., 2nd floor, in Glenwood Springs. The artist will attend, and light refreshments will be served. Admission is free and the public is welcome and encouraged to some see the photos and talk with the photographer.
Gerdes’ work will be on exhibit in the gallery Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Feb. 6 through March 17.
