1000 Words: Gov. Hickenlooper visits CMC Breckenridge

On Oct. 30, 2018, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper stopped at Colorado Mountain College Breckenridge during his statewide farewell tour. On behalf of the college CMC Trustees Patty Theobald and Pat Chlouber, as well as President Carrie Besnette Hauser, welcomed him. Answering questions from Hauser and several others, the governor spoke to staff, faculty, students and community members about higher education’s role in providing workforce training and education in support of Colorado’s economy. He took questions and comments from Colorado State Rep. Millie Hamner, Summit County Commissioners Dan Gibbs and Thomas Davidson, CMC Board President Theobald, Associate Professor Margaret Gilmon and alumna Flor Cruz Valdez, who works as an academic advisor at the college. The conversation touched on the state’s $62 billion outdoor industry and CMC’s role in training the workforce needed to fill those jobs. Hickenlooper also talked about the Gallagher Amendment, school finance, income inequities, affordable housing and Colorado’s growing population. Photo Matt Lit
