Auden Schendler endorses CMC bachelor’s degree

“Getting Green Done’ author champions CMC’s new sustainability studies program

In his role as Vice President of Sustainability for Aspen Ski Company, Auden Schendler travels the country speaking to Congress and corporations on the importance of creating energy efficient, sustainable industry in the face of growing climate change. He has been honored as a global warming innovator by Time magazine and his book “Getting Green Done: Hard Truths from the Front Lines of the Sustainability Revolution”, is a key title in the sustainability canon.

The local guru of sustainability recently lent his voice in support of Colorado Mountain College’s new Bachelor of Arts in Sustainability Studies in a video produced by the college.  “We need sustainability degrees today in the same way we needed computer science degrees in the 80’s,” asserts Schendler. “It’s the revolution, it’s the future. CMC’s new program is a welcome and needed addition to the field.”

The Basalt resident believes a program at Colorado Mountain College is particularly well suited to educate and train students in sustainability studies due to the college’s proximity to the Roaring Fork Valley and other hotbeds of energy innovation.  Companies worldwide currently face a shortage of employees educated in the science and ethics of sustainability at the same time as they face a growing need for individuals who grasp the complexities of this emerging field. Colorado Mountain College’s new Bachelor’s of Arts in Sustainability Studies, given its location and faculty, is an ideal program to fill that gap.
