Meet Pearl, Sneffles and Maroon, our resident llamas, plus all kinds of common and uncommon critters at the Oct. 13 farm tour, hosted by the CMC Vet Tech Club. Bring the whole family (just not Fido – sorry, no pets can be brought to the farm)

Colorado Mountain College’s Veterinary Technology Club invites the community to tour its 220-acre farm and teaching hospitals at Spring Valley on Oct. 13 from noon to 2 p.m. The farm tour coincides with National Veterinary Technician Week. It is free and open to families and individuals of all ages.

Visitors will have a chance to meet some of the diverse residents of the farm including Cheyenne, the 24-year-old female golden eagle, and Beaky, a turkey vulture, both of whom have permanent injuries that prevent them from surviving on their own in the wild.

Among the other residents are horses, llamas, goats, sheep, cattle, chickens and ducks.

As part of their training, the veterinary technology program students oversee the care of all farm animals, as well as several indoor snakes, guinea pigs, birds and domestic animals. The student-led tour will include demonstrations and a question and answer session. Faculty will also be available for questions regarding the profession and CMC’s training program.

Visitors are asked to be prepared for all weather situations and to please leave their pets at home. USDA regulations do not allow unauthorized animals on the premises or in cars.

The event takes place at the veterinary technology farm at 3000 County Rd. 114 (across from the main campus, behind the Colorado Animal Rescue shelter).
