Sopris Theatre Company at Colorado Mountain College calls for actors for ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’

Sopris Theatre Company, formerly known as CMC Theatre, will hold open auditions for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey. Auditions will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Colorado Mountain College in Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs, and callbacks will be held the following day.

Winner of both the Tony and Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Revival of a play, it takes place in a mental institution in 1960. McMurphy once again has gotten himself into trouble and is sentenced by the court to prison. To escape labor duties in prison, he pleads insanity and is sent to a psychiatric ward. Once there, he both endures and stands witness to the abuse and degradation from the oppressive Nurse Ratched.

McMurphy’s unbridled individuality and free expression sets him head-to-head against Ratched. He wins over the patients in working to bring her down and set themselves free.

The cast consists of roles for 15 characters, of varying ethnicities and ages 18 and older. Performance dates at Spring Valley are April 14-15 and 20-23. The play is directed by Wendy Tennis.

Those auditioning are asked to prepare a dramatic contemporary monologue of approximately one minute. Scripts are available at the box office or at the Quigley Library on campus.
