To begin the new year, ceramist Lisa Ellena will fill the CMC ArtShare Gallery in downtown Glenwood Springs with her functional and sometimes surreal ceramic and encaustic work. An opening reception will be held for the artist on Jan. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Ellena, who teaches ceramics at the Colorado Mountain College campus in Aspen, moved to the Roaring Fork Valley from San Diego to participate in an artist-in-residence program at the Carbondale Clay Center. Most recently, her work has shown at the Aspen Chapel Gallery, the Wheeler Opera House and the Red Brick Center for the Arts, among other venues.
Ellena earned a Master of Fine Arts from San Diego State University, and works out of the Studio for Arts and Works (SAW) in Carbondale.
The exhibit, “Dreaming About Thinking,” will be on display at CMC ArtShare from Jan. 8 through Feb. 29. The gallery is at 802 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and is closed Sunday.
