Justice Snow’s continues the Writ Large live storytelling series in the Parlor on Wednesday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. Storytellers include Matt Haslett, David Cook, Sean Tamisiea, Shere Coleman, Alecia Evans and Brian Tinker. This is a free event but guests are encouraged to RSVP to 429-8192 as limited seating is available.
Writ Large is a unique collaboration between Justice Snow’s Restaurant and Bar and the Isaacson School for New Media at Colorado Mountain College. The program gives students a chance to participate in non-fiction storytelling, learning about storycraft techniques and applying them in performances in front of a live audience. The event features six stories running approximately seven minutes each.
“Students and staff from the Isaacson School helped out at the first Writ Large, and we’re excited to play an even bigger role on March 25,” said Rob Martin, director of the Isaacson School for New Media at Colorado Mountain College. Faculty member Tinker and student Tamisiea will be among the presenters. In addition Isaacson School students will be assisting with the lighting, sound and video, and Martin himself is penciled in as the emcee.
“Our program is quite hands-on, so Writ Large fits right in,” said Martin. “This is a great opportunity for our students to gain experience and share their expertise.”
Susan Terra, one of the founders of Writ Large, added, “We all share moments of terror, embarrassment and triumph whether or not we come from the same background or even share any of the same interests. Storytelling is the platform that brings us together and reminds us that we have commonalities that are revealed through humor, courageous acts and grit. And it is uproarious fun!”
Storytellers are selected by curators prior to the event and will be offered an opportunity to get pointers and tips to make their stories more compelling with coaching through the Digital Storytelling Lab at the Isaacson School for New Media. Storytellers will have a chance to practice telling their stories well before the day of the event.
Members of the public are encouraged to participate both as audience members and performers going forward. Interested storytellers are encouraged to contact Michael Conniff at (970) 619-0172 to sign up.
