High Country RSVP receives $10,000 grant

Grant will assist with operational costs for senior programs

The local nonprofit High Country RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) has received a $10,000 grant from the Aspen Community Foundation to assist with operational costs for their senior programs.

Patty Daniells, director of RSVP, said funds from the grant will support the tax and Medicare programs, driver safety classes and a handyman program called Helping Hands for Seniors.

RSVP, a sponsored program of Colorado Mountain College, recruits community members over 55 for volunteering with agencies meeting a critical need. RSVP has served the Roaring Fork valley and surrounding communities for 40 years. It works with 211 senior volunteers, providing more than 30,000 volunteer hours each year to 54 Garfield County nonprofits and volunteer organizations.

The Aspen Community Foundation chooses nonprofits every year for grants that positively impact the quality of life in the communities of the Roaring Fork and Colorado river valleys. It has been working since 1980 to improve the quality of life in our communities. Based in Aspen, the foundation directs a collection of funds created by individuals, families, nonprofits, businesses and the foundation itself for charitable purposes.
