Poverty looks different in Summit than the rest of the country

What poverty around the world look like?

Attendees at a free event later this month will find out.

At the Hunger Banquet, folks will draw a ticket assigned with a level of poverty, or richness, from around the world, which they will represent for the rest of the night.

The event is organized by OxFam America, an international relief and development organization that aims to create solutions for poverty, hunger and injustice. It is being hosted by faculty from the new sustainability studies program at Colorado Mountain College.

“When people hear the word sustainability they think green, but sustainability is really about the three ‘e’s: the economy, the environment and social equity,” said Jessica Burley, adjunct faculty for the college. “This is the equity piece of that.
