At the 20th annual Alpine Bank Latino/Hispanic Scholarship awards luncheon in Glenwood Springs recently, Alpine Bank executives presented 14 graduating high school seniors from five Colorado counties with scholarships to attend Colorado Mountain College for post-secondary study.

To be considered for these specialized scholastic awards, students must be of Latino/Hispanic descent, classify as an in-district student, have at least a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need, among other criteria. Each scholarship – which equals $2,200 a year – helps to cover the cost of tuition, fees and books for two years.

Alpine Bank has been awarding scholarships to qualified students since the program began in 1996 and, to date, has financed more than 180 scholarships.

This year’s scholarship recipients and their respective high schools and locations are Carla Cortez, Bridges High School (Carbondale); Larisa Cruz, Rifle High School; Norma Delgado, Eagle Valley High School (Gypsum); Jennifer Gomez, Coal Ridge High School (New Castle); Alma Gurrola, Battle Mountain High School (Edwards); Chennelle Hernandez, Aspen High School; Violeta (Violet) Lepe, Basalt High School; Eddy Meraz, Roaring Fork High School (Carbondale); Francisco Muneton, Grand Valley High School (Parachute); Thania Núñez, Steamboat Springs High School; Stephany Ortega, Yampah Mountain High School (Glenwood Springs); Raul Rios, Glenwood Springs High School; Paloma Sotelo, Summit High School (Frisco); and Karely Varela, Red Canyon High School (Eagle).
