William Meriwether, a former Colorado Mountain College photography instructor, died at his West Glenwood home Tuesday night. Bobbie, his wife of 17 years, and a Hospice of the Valley volunteer were with him at the time. He was 65 and had been diagnosed with bone cancer in 2004.
As scheduled, Meriwether’s retrospective show of fine art photography opens Friday, June 4, from 6 to 8 p.m, at the CMC Gallery, 831 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs. Friday’s reception serves in part as a remembrance and fundraiser to help meet medical bills. The public is welcome.
The show will be on display through July 28.
Meriwether was a master of platinum-metals printmaking which creates exquisitely subtle and archival photographs. His landscapes and portraits revealed his lifetime love of Colorado, including the San Luis Valley, Flattops Wilderness and the rarely visited Wheeler Geologic Area.
