Colorado Mountain College welcomes ASSET students

College establishes process for students who meet qualifications of new state law

With the passage of Colorado Senate Bill 33 (commonly referred to as the ASSET bill), more students will qualify for in-state tuition at the state’s public colleges and universities. The law applies to U.S. citizens, permanent resident aliens and undocumented students, all of whom must meet certain criteria.

Colorado Mountain College has established an application process for eligible students to complete.

According to the state law, prospective students must meet all of the following criteria to qualify for ASSET:

  • Have attended a public or private high school in Colorado for at least three years
  • Have graduated from a Colorado high school or completed a Colorado GED
  • Be admitted to a Colorado college or university within 12 months of graduation from a Colorado high school or completion of a Colorado GED. (If not admitted to a Colorado college or university within 12 months of receiving a Colorado high school diploma or GED, the individual must submit proof of continuous physical presence in Colorado for 18 months.)

In addition, students without lawful presence must also complete an affidavit indicating that they have applied for legal presence or will apply as soon as they are eligible to do so.

At Colorado Mountain College, students who meet all of these criteria can then apply to college by completing the CMC application, the ASSET application and, if applicable, the affidavit stating they have or will apply for legal presence. If the student has resided in the CMC district for the past 32 days, it is possible to qualify for the in-district tuition rate, which is $56 per credit hour for 100- and 200-level classes.

Registration is now underway for all fall semester classes, and early registration is advised. Classes begin Aug. 26. New students should attend an orientation or meet with a college counselor in order to register.
