Colorado Mountain College will be adding four more electric vehicle charging stations to the six stations the college currently operates, thanks in large part to the Colorado Energy Office.
The state’s energy office recently advised Pete Waller, the college’s facilities director, of a $25,040 grant awarded through Charge Ahead Colorado, a program that is providing funding support to both private and public organizations to establish a statewide network of EV charging stations. The college is providing 20 percent of the total cost of the project, or $14,276, for a total cost of $39,316 for all four stations.
In 2014, the college installed EV charging stations at its learning locations in Rifle, Carbondale, Leadville, Steamboat Springs and Breckenridge, and central administrative offices in downtown Glenwood Springs, after receiving an initial grant from the Colorado Energy Office. The new grant, awarded May 2, will cover new charging stations in Edwards, Aspen and Spring Valley, and at the college’s Glenwood Center, on Blake Avenue in Glenwood Springs. All of the currently operating stations offer free electrical vehicle charging to students, employees and the general public, as will the new stations.
Construction of the new stations is scheduled to start July 1, and is planned to be completed by Sept. 30. For more information on EV charging stations, go to chargeaheadcolorado.com.
