CMC’s Common Reader program sponsors art and creative writing contest

Deadline approaching soon for “Challenging Injustice” contest

Colorado Mountain College is once again sponsoring an art and creative writing contest as part of the Common Reader Program.

All entries for this year’s contest should focus on the theme of “challenging injustice,” inspired by Carlotta Walls Lanier’s book A Mighty Long Way: My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High School and her recent visits to Colorado Mountain College locations in October.

Criteria used to judge the entries will focus on clarity of concept, impact, composition, depth and levels of meaning. All CMC students and community members are invited to participate; however, CMC employees are not eligible for cash prizes. There will be six winners, three in the Creative Writing category and three in the Art category. First prizes are $250 each, second prizes are $150 and third prizes are $100.

All winning entries will be published in the Fall 2011 issue of Rocky Mountain Reflections. Additional entries might be selected for publication in the journal. All contest entries will be treated as journal entries.

Deadline for submissions is November 18, 2011.
