The concept of an “eagle-eye’s view” is gaining a fresh new perspective as a camera placed atop the downtown Glenwood Springs offices of Colorado Mountain College – whose mascot is Swoop the Eagle – starts streaming footage of the Grand Avenue Bridge construction project.
Live video footage from a camera on top of Colorado Mountain College’s central administrative offices at 8th Street and Grand Ave. can be seen at https://gab.coloradomtn.edu.
The camera sits on the roof of the building at the southeast corner of 8th and Grand, and offers a view north toward the old bridge, which will be demolished starting Aug. 14, and the replacement bridge under construction alongside it.
“We thought this would be a great public service, to allow people to witness the largest infrastructure project on the Western Slope in 25 years,” said Doug Stewart, director of marketing and communications for the college. “Our only cost is about $500 for the camera, which was a piece of equipment our information technology department was looking into buying, anyway. It will return to IT’s use once the bridge project is done.”
Faculty from the college’s Isaacson School for New Media and the information technology department put their heads together, and quickly figured out a way to install a camera. The college’s fall semester doesn’t start until Aug. 28, but faculty are considering ways that the footage might support an unusual learning experience or project for Isaacson School students.
