A press release about Colorado Mountain College’s Mountain Futures Fund recently received a regional award from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations.
Within NCMPR’s six-state District 4 region, Colorado Mountain College’s public information office won a gold Medallion award for feature writing.
The feature press release was written by Debra Crawford, the college’s public information officer, with input from Carrie Click, assistant public information officer. As the feature story explained: “By weaving together a tapestry of private, state and national grants, and the support of numerous community organizations and school districts, the college has raised nearly $1 million over the past two years in what’s called the Mountain Futures Fund. This innovative approach is opening the door to college for all students – including many who had not considered going to college.”
Thanks to Mountain Futures, the college has taken on such initiatives as the $1,000 President’s Scholarship, offered to every graduating senior from 18 high schools in CMC’s service area. Other initiatives help to prepare students to transition from high school to college, support concurrent enrollment instructor training and more.
Among the publications where the original story ran are the Rifle Citizen Telegram, Steamboat Pilot & Today, The Chaffee County Times and Leadville Herald Democrat, and on the Always Mountain Time radio stations’ website. A related story ran in the Summit Daily News.
NCMPR is a professional development organization serving communications professionals at two-year colleges. Colorado Mountain College competes in the organization’s District 4, which includes Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas.
