Middle students dream big this summer with help from Colorado Mountain College
Colorado Mountain College Rifle and Roaring Fork campuses, in a partnership with several Western Colorado higher education institutions, are offering low cost summer camps to middle school students this summer.
The summer camps are part of Reach Your Peak Colorado. Reach Your Peak was developed by the El Pomar Foundation’s Northwest Regional Council as a vehicle to provide opportunities for students who otherwise would not pursue higher education and to create an effective educational pipeline from middle school to college. The goal of the program is to spark interest in careers and college among middle school-aged students by helping them connect their summer learning with high school and college options and ultimately, future careers. Students who take part in the program are eligible for scholarships at the participating colleges.
Camps at the different participating colleges offer different learning themes, and tuition scholarships are available to all participants. CMC Rifle’s camp, titled “Crazy Scientist Camp,” takes place July 7-11, from 9am to 4pm, and explores solar energy, non-renewable energy sources such as oil and gas, biofuels and sustainability. Several camps at CMC Roaring Fork’s campus explore technology through the use of the different software programs including MIT App Inventor, Gamemaker, and Scratch, a programming language. CMC Roaring Fork camps take place July 7-11 and July 21-25.
