Get on your bike and ride!
Communities across the country will celebrate Bike To Work day tomorrow, June 22nd. The League of American Bicyclists has been sponsoring the event since 1956 in order to raise awareness about bicycle commuting.
Bike to Work Day is a grassroots effort to educate consumers about the benefits of using leg power + two wheels to get to work. From longtime commuters to first-timers, the goal is to encourage people to use their bikes for transportation.
Towns and businesses will be celebrating Bike To Work day with events at most CMC communities. Here’s a sample of the goods:
Steamboat: Bike to Work day is one day in the town’s support of an entire Bike Month. Stop by the Routt County Courthouse lawn for a free breakfast courtesy Routt County Riders, 7-9AM. Learn more about the town’s month long Commuter Challenge and other green deeds at Sustainable Steamboat Business Program.
Breckenridge: The official Bike To Work day kicks off a summer long challenge sponsored by the Breck Resort Chamber, challenging employees of all member businesses to get out of their cars and commute by bike, foot, bus or boat. Prizes at end of the season to longest commute and most days biked.
Dillon: For CMC’ers who live on the west side of the lake: Start your day in Frisco on two wheels – and pick up free goodies at many participating businesses along Main street. Skateboarding and other forms of alternative transportation also count!
Carbondale: Bike into Glenwood for morning treats at Centennial Park, and remember to check out Bonedale Bike Week next May.
Aspen: Learn to change a tire, get a helmet check and fine tune your riding skills along with free treats for all commuters. Paepcke Park, 7-10AM.
Glenwood Springs: Food, fun and prizes at Centennial Park, 7-10AM. Staff can also stop by CMC’s Central offices to ride one of our ‘two’ Town Bikes for errands all summer, tuned by the great folks over at The Gear Exchange.
Edwards: Refreshments and free giveaways at the Hwy 6 roundabout in Edwards from 7-9AM. Also at Mayor’s Park in Vail, Malin Pedestrian Bridge in Dowd Junction, Mountain Pedaler in Eagle and on US Hwy 6 in Gypsum.
