A New Mascot?

No, just a CMC Connect photo contest

There’s been a lot of activity during the last couple months on CMC Connect, the private social network for Colorado Mountain College applicants and students. This is where incoming and current degree-seeking students can meet new friends, share resources and trade tips for success in college. Since the June launch:

  • 1,200 students joined
  • 2,700 posts
  • 1,800 Facebook friendships created
  • 1 photo posted of a chinchilla with CMC sticker

The primary goal of this effort is to help incoming students meet friends and overcome social anxiety. Researchers have identified this as one of the top reasons applicants choose to stay home. It is also hoped that once students arrive, they will be more likely to stay at CMC because they hit the ground running with a group of friends.

CMC Connect is an app that is fully integrated with Facebook. It includes communities, announcements and a roommate finder. Marketing Specialist Brian Stoess led the implementation of CMC Connect and has been keeping things interesting with “T-Shirt Tuesday” questions (free t-shirt for one lucky response) and other contests like the sticker/photo competition. In addition to the hamster, submissions included stickers on a gas pump in Vegas (non-sanctioned) and a water bottle in the Canadian wilderness. Should be a fun group of students coming our way!

Degree-seeking students or applicants should have received an email with sign-up instructions. Applied students can also access CMC Connect at:  app.coloradomtn.edu
