Experienced bass player displays skills during beginner’s class
Local musician and Berklee College of Music graduate Ashton Taufer will teach beginners to play electric bass at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs starting Feb. 23. The college also plans to host a more advanced class with Taufer beginning this summer.
Ever since his middle school days, Taufer has played bass in a number of different jazz and rock groups. Upon graduating from Berklee, the Glenwood Springs native performed at the 2009 Summer of Jazz series with the Ashton Taufer Quartet. Currently, he is the bass player with All the Pretty Horses.
Taufer also teaches for the Jazz Aspen Snowmass summer music camps and for the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts.
Taufer’s Introduction to the Bass course at Colorado Mountain College is open to any beginner. No previous study of music is necessary.
The class meets Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., from Feb. 23 through April 20. An electric bass and amplifier are required to participate. Students are asked to register by Feb. 21 at CMC’s Glenwood Center (1402 Blake Avenue). Class cost is $127.
