‘Roaring Fork Colors’ celebrates local artists’ works Oct. 11

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – The CMC ArtShare Gallery will present an artists’ reception Oct. 11 for the exhibit “Roaring Fork Colors,” featuring the work of 10 local alla prima artists.

Painting by Libby De Stefano
“Jack” by Elizabeth De Stefano is one of the alla prima paintings in “Roaring Fork Colors,” at the CMC ArtShare Gallery in Glenwood Springs Oct. 9-Nov. 17. A free public reception will be held Oct. 11.

The term “alla prima” derives from an Italian phrase meaning “at first attempt.” Also known as direct painting, au premier coup or occasionally as wet-on-wet, it is a one-layer painting technique. The artist usually paints directly from life, and completes the painting in one sitting or while the paint is still wet.

The featured artists are Carla Reed, Barbara Smith, Joan Engler, Stephanie McConaughy, Libby De Stefano, Alice Elizabeth Strait, Nicolette Toussaint, Judy Nordhagen, Judy Milne and Sandra Francis.

The public reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the CMC ArtShare Gallery at Morgridge Commons, 815 Cooper Ave., 2nd floor, Glenwood Springs. Light refreshments will be served. The exhibit is on display at the gallery from Oct. 9 to Nov. 17.
