CMC ArtShare will present “Art of the Plant,” a botanical photography exhibit by Elizabeth Henry, at an opening reception Sept. 14.

Henry has a doctorate in literature and film studies from the University of Iowa. She taught at the University of Denver and was an award-winning documentary filmmaker before moving to the Western Slope. She earned a professional photography degree from Colorado Mountain College, where she currently teaches.

Henry said she hopes her imagery encourages people to slow down and to see the natural world in all its beauty, strength and fragility, complexity and simplicity. “Through these 18 images, one is allowed to see what’s not normally seen,” Henry explained, “to feel what’s beautiful, alive, mysterious, contemplative and regenerative in a plant, tree, flower or blade of grass.”

The reception for “Art of the Plant” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the CMC ArtShare Gallery at Morgridge Commons, 815 Cooper Ave., 2nd floor, Glenwood Springs. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and the artist will attend.

Henry’s work will be on exhibit in the gallery Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Sept. 7 through Oct. 26. Henry thanks the Lynda and Stewart Resnick Family Foundation for their support of this exhibit.
