Colorado Mountain College Vail Valley at Edwards and the Vail Valley Art Guild will join forces once again to present “Art & Jazz,” a free community event to celebrate the opening of the 5th annual Vail Valley Fine Art Show.
Featuring live music and artwork by local artists and photographers, the reception will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the CMC campus in Edwards. Refreshments will be served.
The opening reception will feature live jazz by The Jeremiah Johnson Quartet. In addition to playing tenor sax, Johnson is an assistant dean of instruction at CMC Vail Valley in Edwards.
The 5th annual Vail Valley Fine Art Show will showcase more than 150 works in 2D, 3D and photography. All art has been created by faculty and students from Colorado Mountain College, and by Vail Valley Art Guild members.
“Art & Jazz” attendees may vote for their favorite entries, and a panel of judges will award prizes to the best work in each category.
This year, in addition to the fine art show, the CMC Vail Valley library is displaying select pieces of art from the collection of JoAnn Gonzalez Hickey. This collection of works on paper was the topic of a recent Vail Symposium event discussing the intersection between art and the mind. The library exhibit is entitled “How Time Was Place to Wonder” and is graciously on loan from Hickey during the entire length of the Vail Valley Fine Art Show. The 5th annual Vail Valley Fine Art Show will be on exhibit and is available for viewing and sales from Aug. 24 through Oct. 26 at Colorado Mountain College Vail Valley at Edwards, 150 Miller Ranch Road. Call 970-569-2900 or visit CMC Vail Valley for more information.
